Course Overview

Across industries, people are using generative AI to help speed up and remove stress from writing tasks. But how can these powerful tools help you with the writing you do? This course is designed to help you connect these powerful writing tools to your own documents and projects, from brief emails to the lengthy reports and presentations.

We'll be exploring what these tools can do for you at every step of the writing process, including brainstorming, planning, drafting, editing, and revising. You'll also learn how to augment and adapt these tools so they fit your specific needs and workflows. And finally, we'll end the course by sharing what we've learned and discussing how to help those around us understand and get the most out of these tools.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Identify common challenges in professional and workplace writing tasks and explore how AI tools can address them.
• Use generative AI to revise, research, plan, and adapt writing for clarity, tone, and purpose.
• Evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of AI-generated content across different professional contexts.
• Create tailored AI prompts to generate useful, verifiable, and task-relevant information.
• Adapt AI tools and outputs to support specific needs within your own workflow and organization.

If you complete the course with a score of 80% or higher on all assignments, you’ll earn the AI in Business Communication digital badge, issued by the USF Office of Microcredentials.
